A great day on Stage 2 of La Vuelta a Espana for Javier Navarro Aramendia of Caja Rural who, along with Chacon and Ignatiev, attacked after 6km. With just 12km to go, Aramendía and Ignatiev were caught. There was some glory however for Aramendia, as he was awarded the prize for Most Aggressive Rider.
The cyclist from Navarra - Javier Navarro Aramendia is one of the stars of the stage. After the start, a three-man group stayed away for much of the day, his made a good combination with Chacon (Andalusia) and Ignatiev (Katusha). Attack is formed of 6 kilometers after the start and was able to hold up to 12 kilometers before the finish line.
The stage had the first mountain ranking and the first intermediate sprints of this year's Vuelta. The climb was the category three Alto de la Chapela at 77km, with a modest 3.5 percent average gradient. Aramendia was the first over the top, but the jury spotted irregularities and awarded the points instead to Chacon, who thus took the first mountain jersey.
"The Star from Navarra" said after the stage:
"I received prize for to good fight, it is a good start to the race and will try to continued along this line. We came to good ride in World Tour, but we came to wars and we will fight for this difficult purpose".
